Now Playing - Train - Hey Soul Sister
I completely forgot about this blog for an extended amount of time I realise.
But now is a good time, although it may not be the most appropriate with folio due in less than a fortnight.
Having braved out 2009 as a year 12 immersed in study, art and dance, I`m surprised how much I've changed within a year. I was so unsure for the majority of the first half of the year about what I wanted to pursue in terms of higher education; yet with my subject selection (literature, art, calculus, applicable, physics and chemistry) it seems that architecture was a perfect match. I guess it clicked during exams after I realised how much I enjoyed art history that everything made sense. But then again, context was different, being surrounded by study art seemed like an escape from everything.
The reason I mention this is although now I am here studying architecture at UWA, I`m not so sure again. I love it, gaining an appreciation of design and the way something physical can affect the mental state of a person, but my progress in studio seems to indicate otherwise.
I admit, my discipline has definately declined. From being studious and having the pressure of TEE weighing down on me, the pace of university life has changed my priorities alot. I find that its "good", i`m experiencing a "social renaissance" for me, reconnecting with old friends and making many new ones. It's been an emotional roller coaster but I don't think I could ever regret it. I really appreciate how close I am to everyone in my course, especially our "family". And there is Alice, La'belle and Jackie who have been so importantly there for me when I've been in times of stress and pressure. I'm so grateful for their honesty and sympathy when I've been too biased to consider all perspectives. I realise there are names I`ve left off, but it doesn't mean I don't love them too <3 However there have been consequences; I've become much more distant towards my own family seeing as I've spending alot of time away from home. I spend alot more time at uni, work and just chilling with friends. I appreciate how much freedom I have now with my life, but there are still time management issues which I will probably never fully resolve. As well as that, I feel like my commitment to dance has also waned in that I've become tardy to classes and my enthusiasm is usually dogged by the constant sleep deprivation caused by late nights doing work, facebooking and general time wasting (spider solitaire ftw!).
Let's just take it slow for now and see where everything takes me?
